WorkRise aims to elevate the voices of the workers, advocates, employers, policymakers, and practitioners leading transformative change in the labor market. Practitioner Talks is a new quarterly speaker series where we will highlight the experience and expertise of changemakers seeking and shaping economic opportunity and mobility at work.

Join us for our first Practitioner Talk featuring Saru Jayaraman, president of One Fair Wage and director of the Food Labor Research Center at the University of California, Berkeley. Jayaraman will share insights from her new book, One Fair Wage, which chronicles the experiences of workers earning subminimum wages and the campaign to end this practice in food service, transportation, and other low-wage industries. Jayaraman will reflect on whether trends in workers demanding better pay and working conditions and employers raising wages and pursuing other high-road practices during the COVID-19 pandemic will lead to lasting change. She will be in conversation with Don Howard, president and chief executive officer of The James Irvine Foundation.
