WorkRise Shorts: Assessing Skilled Credentials To Improve and Broaden Hiring

Last updated on April 16, 2025

Can employers embrace skills-first hiring practices to overcome talent shortages no matter the size of their HR operations? Sally Windisch at the Society for Human Resource Management discusses a series of pilot programs that provided educational and technical assistance to a range of employers, all of whom widened their hiring pools by focusing on required skill sets no matter where or how job candidates acquired them.

Additionally, the SHRM Foundation is launching a new project that will take these findings about implementing skills-first hiring a step further. The Center for Skills First Future will serve as a new resource to help HR professionals and people managers take the first steps in the skills first journey.
