WorkRise Shorts: Stepping-Stone Jobs with Michael Schultz

About one quarter of all workers in the US are low-wage workers, and in about four years, half of all workers who enter low-wage jobs move to better wages. University of Chicago research scientist Michael Schultz’s research tackles how low-wage workers get to better-paying jobs. Schultz’s recent research explores whether low-wage jobs are “stepping stones” that enable workers to move to higher-paid jobs linked by institutional mobility ladders and skill transferability.
